This is a very nice utility called Sloppy, it's a deliberately slow proxy server that you should add to your web development arsenal. It requires the Java plugin and creates a local proxy server on a random port (defaults to port 7569) for a given domain name. It only tests one domain at a time so remember to switch the URL in the applet before going on to the next website. It's also worth noting that Sloppy will only launch the proxied url into your default web browser so if you need to test in multiple web browsers (which you should be doing anyhow) you only need to copy and paste the proxied url (i.e. http://127.0.0.1:7569/) into the other web browsers.

The last gotcha that I ran into was caching. It seems that the proxied url is cached by the proxy server (the java applet) rather than by your web browser. So clearing your browser cache isn't good enough. You have to restart the proxy server (restart the applet).

Note: If you do switch your default web browser assignment during testing don't forget to switch it back to Firefox when you're done. =)

You can run it directly or visit the Sloppy website first.
